How can I get my little boy to eat his baby food?

Rosalind55 asked:

I have been feeding my little boy solids since he was about 5 months old, he is now 9 months and he will hardly eat any baby food! Mayber 1/2 a jar to 3/4 a jar a day, plus rice cereal in his night bottle. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get him to eat more? I am a ****** feeding working mother and I pump at work, however, my milk supply is getting lower and lower and I would like to start him on more solids. Thanks for anybody’s helpful hints!

try mixing a lil juice or fruit in with it. he might not like the blah taste it has. and dont give fruit before veggies. start with some table food that is really soft like mashed potatoes, and eggs idk does he have teeth yet. sry mine got theirs way early

My daughter was the same way. Try offering him whatever you are eating.Give him his plate and let him seat at the family’s table. He will eat while you guys are eating.

That is totally normal for him not to want you to feed him his baby food. I would try giving him ‘Grown-up’ food to start is he is 9/10 months old. If you are still adamant about him eating his baby food try getting him ‘lil entrees’ or just get a variety of different foods and let him choose ( chidren like there independence ).

aside from the eating, you sound like my sister. she pumps as break time. make eating fun?

He wants to feed himself, 9 months is way to old for baby food. He should be on table food.

You also need to work on your supply, he needs breastmilk more than anything else right now. There are lots of things you can do.

I’m not pumping enough milk. What can I do?

You just need to keep offering it. He’s old enough now to start getting some “real” people food. When you have dinner then give him some of your softer foods. Try giving him more variety and he may eat more. Also try feeding him less and less ****** milk. That may make the transition easier.

just keep trying to feed him his food if he doesn’t like it give him something sweet and i know you’ve probably heard that they are suppost to have they’re veggies 1st but it does not matter as long as they are eating just make sure he is getting some veggies in and also talkto his doctor cuz at 9 months he should be eating 3 meals and 3-4 bottles a day so keep trying good luck

Is it that he wants to feed himself rather than have you feed him? I would start giving him some finger foods. Also anything you make yourself is going to taste better than what you buy in the store. My daughter loved this – Cut up a sweet potato, put it on a baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with a little brown sugar and cinnamon. Bake until soft at 400 degrees. After it bakes you can cut it up into bite size pieces and he can feed himself. There are more great recipes at.

My second child rejected spoon-feeding around this age. From there on out, she only wanted to feed herself. She’s an independent little thing (”NO hep, mama!”) Just stop offering spoon food and replace it with finger food. Here are some finger food ideas.

Kathie made me hungry. I’m buying sweet potatoes tomorrow! I might even share with my babies . . .

My sons 9 months old too and he’s on Gerber stage 3,juice,and cereal. My son did not want to eat his food either but my doctor told me it was because its a new texture to him. So to just keep feeding it to him and he will eat it cause my son does now. I acted like I liked it and he ate it I think he was just unsure b/c it was something new to him!!!

if he dont want he is not going to eat and you cant make him eat it. you should make your own babyfood with the food you cook with and put in the blender. if he dont eat that he is in a phase of not eating right now he will eat when he is hungry

my aunt uses her own little method with my cousin brandon where she pretends she’s giving him his bottle, but then when he opens his mouth she sticks the spoon of food in his mouth. he really gets fooled cuz he’d rather drink his bottle than eat sometimes so it works everytime

once they start on real solids it is hard to get them to go back to the bad tasting rice and stuff. mix in some good tasting fruit. Maybe that will work
