9 weeks – heard the blood supply to the baby but no heartbeat?

baby supply
? PG after M/C ? asked:

Does that mean that the baby is ok but we just couldn’t hear the heartbeat yet? I know it’s early so I am not questioning why we couldn’t hear it yet – I am just wondering specifically if hearing the blood supply to the baby means that the baby is ok?
I saw the baby 3 weeks ago with a healthy heartbeat although I don’t agree with all the Stats that seeing a heartbeat decreases the chance of miscarriage. I saw the heartbeat last time I was pregnant too and still ended up miscarrying.

I’m weaning my baby off of breastmilk. As the milk supply dries up, will I be sore? What can I do for this?

I’m well read on how to wean the baby, but don’t know much about self-care so any tips and advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Unique Baby Basket Ideas

Janet R. asked:

Having a new baby is a bunch of blessing for the parents, family and friends. It is fun to know that everyone is guessing what will be the gender of the little one, but whether the gender is known ahead of time or not, to welcome the newborn child calls for gifts. One of perhaps the most ideal gift for a newborn child is baby gift basket. This basket seems quite very common but making it unique can make a big change, and of course this will be more appreciated by all.

Do-It-Yourself Unique Baby Gift Basket

Baby Gift Basket Using Containers. To make a gift basket need not to use a real traditional basket. You can use other resources such as a pail, bucket, laundry basket, baby bath tub and other containers that can accommodate several baby items. These containers are commonly seen inside the house. You may begin a gift basket by using pail, for example, instead of a real basket. Line the pail with a flannelet blanket, just let the edges extend over the pail’s top. Fill in the infants items like bathing soap, soft towel, and other bathing supplies according to the size of your gift basket. Lastly, finish your gift by adding a treat or two for infant’s mother: parenting guide books and magazines, bath salts, spa collection or pretty scarf.

Baby Cakes. These gift baskets are very popular nowadays. Make your own unique baby gift basket by creating the cake yourself. To begin with, start making a layer of disposable diapers arranged in a circle. Wrap a small pastel blanket or towel around the diapers, then add diaper pin embellishments. Next, make the second layer using bibs and face cloths rolled into an appropriate size. Wrap them to match the previous layer. Insert extra surprises like soft toys in the top of the cake. Finally, wrap you gift basket with cellophane and tie the top with a big bow.

Sporty-Themed Gift Basket. This unique basket is a simple reflection of the parent’s interest with sports. Start with a hat or helmet from a favorite sports team. Include booties, mittens bib, shirt or other clothing with team colors. You could also choose baby items with the team’s logo. Another great idea is to include the team mascot to the baby items, since most teams have a plush version of it. Finish this unique option by filling assorted, practical infant’s supplies.

Baby Feeding Supply Basket. Make a unique basket using child’s feeding supplies, the gift looks good in a white woven basket shaped like a bassinet. Line the basket with a soft blanket or towels. Add a keepsake name plate, with a gift certificate to have the name inscribed. Fill in feeding supplies like silverware or stainless, plastic dish and bibs. Top with a surprise stuffed toy and treats for the new mom.

Organic Baby Gift Idea. For an environment-conscious parents, organic gift basket can make a very pleasing surprise. It should start with an organic basket, of course. Choose bamboo-made material, a good eco-friendly choice. Add an organic bamboo receiving baby blanket, and infant clothing such as organic bamboo knit shirt, bamboo diaper covers, and bamboo knit hat. Include organic bath products and lotions. Top off your gift basket with soft, organic cotton toy and organic new mom gift.

I have a two ring baby belling cooker that plugs into the wall.

The oven and one of the rings work fine, but when I try to put the second ring on it trips the electric.

This knocks the kettle and computer upstairs off.

Is it safe to still use the one working ring oven?

Thanks,

Don’t feel obligated to get expensive cribs and diaper changing tables. Instead, you can get other baby essentials to help out the new parents without breaking the bank.

Baby Odds & Ends

Every new parent needs baby knick knacks to make their lives easier. Burp cloths are great for catching that extra gunk. (You can never have too many burp cloths.) Pacifiers are perfect for when the baby is teething or crying. For the parent on the go, you can give them baby carriers, which are great for multitasking. They can take care of the baby and doing household work at the same time. Look for these odds and ends that in fun colors to brighten up the babies and parents’ lives.

Baby Safety

Some parents may overlook purchasing baby safety equipment, which is very important to have. Monitors are crucial for those late night feedings and checking on the baby. Gates and outlet covers should be placed all over the parent’s home, so they can prevent wondering toddlers from getting into trouble. When a baby travels to his/her grandparents or other relatives’ homes, the parents should bring extra gates and outlet covers with them. It’s okay to get a few extra safety supplies. There are many cases of toddlers falling down the steps, getting into toxic household supplies, or electrocuting themselves. Don’t underestimate how many safety items the parents need.

Baby Toys

When there is a baby around, toys are necessities to keep the little one occupied. Swings and bouncers help babies’ legs become stronger for walking. An activity center or playmats are great for babies to learn coordination skills. You can even give stuff animals because babies love them, and can’t have too many. Look for toys are age appropriate for the baby, so you wouldn’t buy him/her something too young or too old.

Baby Entertainment

CDs, DVDs, and books are great tools for baby’s to learn their languages. Look for items that are colorful with catchy tunes or stories, so babies could listen and watch them repeatedly.

Baby Clothing

Babies are always outgrowing their clothes. New parents are constantly buying new clothes to keep up with their every growing baby. When shopping for baby clothes, look for masculine colors such as blue, green, or yellow for boys and feminine colors such as soft pinks and purples. You want to consider the season before choosing the size for the baby. For example if the baby is 6 months and it’s the beginning of winter, you don’t want to buy an outfit for the summer that will fit a 6 month old. Otherwise, the baby will already have outgrown it. Instead, you would buy an outfit that will fit a 10-13 month old.

Your New Baby Can Cost You $20,000 in the First Two Years!

baby supply
Sarah Jones asked:

Having kids is an expensive endeveor! Just think about all of the new things that a baby brings to the equation:

Housing: Despite what my mother says, you can’t keep the baby in the bottom drawer of your dresser. So he/she is going to need their own room. If you already have the space, then you just have to factor in an increase in gas, electricity, water, home repairs, appliance repairs, home furnishings, etc. Kids can be hard on appliances and furnishings, so don’t expect your things to last as long as they used to. If your home isn’t big enough, then you may have to buy/rent a bigger one. So factor in the cost of increased rent and mortgage payments.

Food: If you breastfeed (which I highly recommend) then you will save a great deal of money on formula for the first year of babies life. Deciding to make your own baby food, will save you even more. But you will need to factor in the cost of nutritious meals for mom and the supplies needed to make your own baby food. If you go the formula/baby food route then you can expect to spend anywhere from $100-200 dollars a month on formula.

Transportation: Here again, if you have been driving a mini van all along, you are ahead of the game. If you drive a small car- you will want to look into getting something larger. Factor in extra gas for all those visits to the doctors office, and the grocery store (because you will go more often once the baby comes.)

Clothing: Now this is one category that some parents have a weakness for. Those tiny little pink and blue outfits can really put a strain on your budget- especially when you consider that your little one will probably go through 3-4 outfits a day for the first 12 months of their life.

Healthcare: Your insurance premiums will go up and many insurance companies will also raise your deductible when you go from a “couple” to a “family.” Little ones will need to go in for immunizations and well baby visits every month or two, and there is usually a co-pay involved there as well. The actual pregnancy and labor and delivery can also set you back a couple of thousand dollars depending on your insurance company.

Childcare: If you plan on sending your child to daycare or have a nanny in your home you can expect to easily spend at least $500-1000 dollars a month.

Miscellaneous: There are a ton of little things that you will need along the way, so it’s always a good idea to have a bit of cushion in your budget.

Janet R. asked:

To anticipate the incoming baby, expectant parents should consider preparing baby products and other infant essentials ahead. It is important to be well prepared before the arrival of your baby. The items that should be on the top of your list are those that are practical that you can use in a daily basis. The trouble of not having these supplies can tall-out effort to make a convenient move. To be well prepared is something that could bing your little darling at home in an easy and relax way.

Diaper Supplies

Diaper supplies are one of the most useful and easy ways to help ease the process of changing the baby. This item needs to be plenty considering that even just a few days old baby goes to the bathroom a lot. Prepare diapering supplies such as newborn size cloth or disposable diapers, cotton balls and baby wipes. Include also some diaper rash cream to protect your infant from rashes. Consider also a changing table and other safe, sturdy surface for your baby to better rest while changing. Another item you need to include are diaper disposal containers that can mask diaper odor.

Baby Clothings

Clothings are very important. This is the first thing that comes into every expectant parents’ mind when preparing supplies for their incoming baby. Babies can be messy! Preparing plenty of clothing is a smart choice to make to prevent you from last minute shopping. Infant clothings such as one-piece outfits, one-piece pajamas, cotton shirts, sweater or jacket, weather clothes – especially when the baby is due to be born in the winter, socks and booties, and cap or bonnet.

Blankets and Beddings

Soft blankets, beddings and other layettes are perfect to tightly swaddle your infants, this could give them a snug feeling as if they are still in the womb. Prepare plenty of these items also in case your child is spitting up a lot or she/he has a diaper leak. For beddings, they are intended to be placed inside the crib or other flat surface to make a soft resting area for your infant.

Baby Bottles

This is for moms who prefer to feed their babies using baby bottles. However, make sure that these bottles are well sterilized before you use them. Most moms, after giving birth are overwhelmed and don’t need extra pressure that’s why sterilizing these items ahead can make a great convenience.
